The introduction of ecosystem-based MSP in the BCLME is supported by the Benguela Current Marine Spatial Management and Governance Project (MARISMA, 2014-2022). The project is a development partnership between the BCC, its Contracting Parties, and the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany in pursuit of the sustainable development of the Benguela Current region. This regional capacity-building and development cooperation project is implemented by the BCC, the Governments of Angola, Namibia and South Africa, and GIZ, the German Agency for Development Cooperation (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH). MARISMA is financed by the International Climate Initiative (IKI) of the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection (BMUV). The BMUV supports this initiative on the basis of a decision adopted by the German Bundestag (Parliament) with up to 10.88 Mio. €. Significant in-kind contributions by the BCC and its three member countries complement the German financing.
